Supporting Children Through Separation or Divorce

Strong families

How Young Discoverers Walks Alongside Your Family

At Young Discoverers, we know that family life doesn’t always follow a straight path. Separation or divorce can be one of the most challenging seasons for families, and during this time, children need understanding, stability and care more than ever.

A Place of Stability When Life Feels Uncertain

While every child responds differently, it’s common to see a mix of emotions – sadness, confusion, anger, anxiety or even relief. These are normal and valid responses. What makes the biggest difference is the support children receive around them.

That’s where we can come in.

When things at home are changing, children benefit from environments that feel safe, predictable and familiar. At Young Discoverers, we intentionally create spaces where children can take a breath, feel secure and simply be themselves.

Our consistent routines, caring educators and welcoming environments provide a sense of normalcy that helps children feel grounded, even during big life transitions.

Gentle, Individualised Support

Our educators are experienced in recognising when children may need a little extra support and will work with you to support the struggles you may notice. Through strong, trusting relationships, we gently guide children as they process their emotions.

We support children by:

  • Providing reassurance and emotional safety
  • Creating opportunities for children to express their feelings through play and conversation
  • Supporting emotional regulation and resilience
  • Encouraging positive friendships and connection

Every child is different, and we respond with care that is thoughtful, respectful and tailored to their needs.

Partnering With You

We understand that this season can be just as challenging for parents and caregivers. You don’t have to navigate it alone.

If you need additional support, our chaplaincy team is available to provide a compassionate listening ear. Simply speak with your Centre Director and we will help connect you.

Our team works in partnership with families, maintaining open and supportive communication so that we can respond consistently to each child’s needs- both at home and in our service. Whether it’s sharing observations, offering reassurance, or simply being a listening ear, we are here to support you as well.

Helping Children Continue to Thrive

With the right support, children are incredibly resilient. A nurturing, stable environment can make a meaningful difference in how they adjust and grow through change.

At Young Discoverers, our heart is to provide a place where children feel safe, valued and supported – a place where they can continue to learn, build friendships and thrive, no matter what changes are happening around them.

If your family is walking through separation or divorce, we are here for you.
