Sun safety at Young Discoverers is a commitment that we take seriously.
The Gold Coast’s beautiful sunshine is one of the things we love most—but it also means sun protection is essential, especially for young children. That’s why sun safety is built into our daily routines and forms a key part of our early learning program.
Sun Safety at Young Discoverers looks like…
We follow Queensland’s SunSmart recommendations every day to keep your child safe in the sun and help them develop lifelong healthy outdoor habits through fun, engaging experiences.
- 🧴 Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide – We actively teach this classic sun safety message through songs, stories, and fun role play.
- 🧢 Hats Are a Must – Every child wears a wide-brimmed hat during all outdoor play.
- 🌳 Shaded Outdoor Play Areas – Our play spaces include shade sails, leafy trees, and undercover areas to protect children while they explore and enjoy the outdoors.
How Families Can Support Sun Safety
Working together helps children build safe habits. Here’s how you can help:
- Pack a named wide-brimmed hat in your child’s bag every day.
- Apply sunscreen before drop-off—we’ll reapply it during the day.
- Dress your child in cool, sun-safe clothing (think sleeves and breathable fabrics).
By working as a team, we’re raising sun-smart kids who enjoy the outdoors while staying safe and protected.
